Our Counseling & Therapy Approach
Ms. Washington’s clinical approach is centered on creating a calming, warm, and encouraging space where clients feel safe to explore their emotions and experiences. She integrates Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and psychoeducation to help clients develop emotional clarity and resilience. Additionally, she incorporates creative interventions, distress tolerance strategies, and customized tools tailored to each client’s unique needs. Her work is deeply informed by culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices, particularly for BIPOC communities, individuals with disabilities, and those experiencing chronic stress. She is currently training in Trauma Conscious Yoga Method (certification expected April 2025) and will pursue EMDR training in May 2025 to expand her ability to support clients in holistic healing. Her goal is to empower individuals to navigate life’s challenges with confidence, self-awareness, and meaningful growth.

Therapy Philosophy
At Growth Matters, every session is designed to support your growth. I use a variety of therapy modalities with each working together to promote personal growth through empowerment, practical coping strategies, emotional regulation, and community support. I prefer to utilize the following treatment modalities in my practice:
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
SFBT focuses on identifying solutions and strengths rather than problems, helping you set achievable goals.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCBT)
MBCBT combines mindfulness techniques with cognitive behavioral strategies to help you manage thoughts and emotions, reduce anxiety, and help you break negative thought cycles.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT encourages acceptance of difficult emotions while guiding you to take action aligned with their values. This supports living authentically by overcoming any self-limiting beliefs.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy works by giving you the opportunity to reframe your personal story, separating you from your problems, and fostering self-worth and resilience.
Group Therapy
Group therapy provides a supportive environment where individuals share experiences and receive feedback. It reduces isolation, fosters connection, and enhances social skills through shared learning and mutual support.
